tides of devotion

Along the coastal villages of Nhơn Lý, songs about the Cá Ông still echo, blending with the crashing waves and the chants of fishermen hauling their nets. Cá Ông, a spiritual presence deeply rooted in the fishermen’s consciousness, stands as a symbol of protection, prosperity, and the miraculous. The project is a field journey of the photographer and friends, entering another dimension of space and time—where belief in Cá Ông creates a vibrant atmosphere that dissolves the boundaries of perception and the separation between humans and nature.

This project is a part of Nguyen Huy Hoang’s fieldwork for his thesis MƠ MƠ MÀNG MÀNG: An Encounter with Thought, Otherness and the Figure of Cá Ông in Quy Nhơn.
